Is anyone missing background tvs featuring sport coverage of the events? I miss seeing the newspaper articles and photos too. Well, the Paralympics will begin on Mar. 12. There is some coverage of the torch run?

Sorta kinda miss the uniforms and visuals but not the commentary--sometimes it dragged on when a quiet pause would have been better. All the "new" ads from the sponsors were entertaining for two weeks. What torch relay??

Have to admit that it is pretty hard to watch paralympics in action, even though some of were world champions a few yrs ago, when I missed a lot of the Olympics itself though use to compete in comp speed-skating, to comp Down Hill to Giant Slalom skiing to even a bit of cross country skiing & naturally a hockey player when much younger knowing all the rules & regulations. Tach on around 20 yrs of curling.

Reebok puts up $10K for Crosby’s missing Oly gear
By The Canadian Press
Last Updated: March 7, 2010 4:53am
There’s big bucks in store for the person who can turn in Sidney Crosby’s missing hockey gear.

Reebok Canada is offering a $10,000 reward, no questions asked, for the return of the stick and glove Crosby used to score his winning goal in last weekend’s gold-medal game against the U.S.

The equipment disappeared after the Crosby tossed his stick and ripped off his gloves to celebrate Canada’s Olympic victory last Sunday. http://www.torontosun.com/sports/vancouver2010/hockey/2010/03/07/13141906.html

Here's an idea: don't throw your gear on the ice. Each player should be responsible for taking off of the ice or having a team staffer take care of the gear if the celebration has to be without equipment but on ice. Helmets should stay on as long as anyone is on the ice. It will hurt if one knock's a head on it.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find the story about the Paralympic Torch online that I saw in today's Toronto Sun--the torch was in Victoria, B.C. I noticed on the link that the torch is travelling through Squamish today.

People showing up for torch run-good! Not so much security in the photo like other run. Locals know their own so community is visible for torch run. New torch run for event--Canadian first!

(Vancouver Sun)METRO VANCOUVER - The Richmond RCMP were asking for the public's assistance Monday in locating 21 bicycles that have yet to be returned to their Dutch owners after the Olympics.

These bikes are among the 400 that were on loan throughout the duration of the Olympics and are very unique in appearance. The bikes were available through the Heineken House and they cannot be obtained in Canada. Whether they are now lost or stolen is something the Richmond RCMP are looking into and we are asking that people keep an out for them and report any found bikes to the RCMP, according to a news release.

*******************

If they were lost I would think the person would be honest and reported it by now. Stolen seems to be the likely scenario. Disgusting when all knew they were just loaners for the Olympics and then give them back. At least 379 people were honest enough to return them .

Unfortunately humans at things like the Olympics like to STEAL clothing of a competitor & especially a prize winner. The firm that handed out 400 bicycles SHOULD HAVE REALIZED that people would simply dump them somewhere & not give a darn if not there when they get back to ride them again.

Any place in North America to most of Europe the riders of bicycles ALWAYS know to lock up thier bicycle at work in a safe place or to also be smart enough not to use their most costly bicycle, but some old bicycle just in case their costly bicycle was worth stealing to others. Like in Holland most people on bicycle only use a good bike if they know it will be locked in where they work or keep an eye on them OTHERWISE they use a clunker of a bicycle.

I do not have a super costly bicycle, but better then a clunker, so when I cycled down town I would chain the front forks, wheel, & frame up against a light post & take off the saddle & stem just to be in a shop with my eye easy to see the bicycle.

Even if I have to visit in a city with a m/c , for something small or of importance, I take my '97 Yamaha 600cc that was damage in an accident. Most wanting to steal a m/c will not want this outdated one ESPECIALLY as they can see the bike has been damaged.

Heinken Beer labels are green and black---so were the bikes green and black too? Yes, it appears that some got carried away with the bikes for good. For promotional gimmicks, that seems to have been a good one for Vancouver.

123duyusee I can just see some dim witt wanting to steal one in said colours BECAUSE it will remind him/her of the Olympics & besides it is easy to sand down a bicycle frame & paint it another colour now or later on.

The organizing committee has spare money to donate to Haiti? What was the origin of the donation funds from VANOC-that $54,000?

Vancouver 2010 and partners donate $300,000 to UNICEF to help rebuild Haiti as part of Vancouver 2010 Olympic Truce
Mar 5, 2010

Vancouver, BC — To help children and teenagers in Haiti rebuild after the devastating earthquake there on January 12, a $300,000 CAD donation has been made to UNICEF to commemorate the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Truce and to serve as a lasting legacy of Canada’s Games.

The donation, announced today, will provide an opportunity for the children of Haiti to once again play in good health and freedom. The donation is made possible by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), as well as explore.org and the Annenberg Foundation, l’Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) and Teck Resources, an Official Supporter of the 2010 Winter Games and the metals supplier for the Vancouver 2010 medals.

“When a tragic situation occurs, such as the earthquake in Haiti, it is incumbent on all of us to come together as global citizens to assist,” said VANOC CEO John Furlong. “Sport has the power to unite and heal, especially among children, which is why we’re working with our partners through UNICEF. We encourage everyone in the world who watched the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games to continue to support Haiti as it works to rebuild.”http://www.vancouver2010.com/paralympic-games/news/haiti_304126nZ.html
